SUMMARY:Hadden / Sternberg / Enright
DESCRIPTION:Isaac Hadden\, Quinn Sternberg\, and Joe Enright arrive with nothing decided. No setlist\, no arrangements\, no agreed-upon first note. What gets built tonight gets built from silence forward\, in real time\, in this room\, and when the room goes quiet it will be gone. Hadden's guitar moves between something like starlight and something like gravel\; Enright's drums carry the logic of jazz reshaped by years of listening to music that doesn't sit still\; Sternberg's bass supplies the gravity that lets the other two roam without floating off entirely. The three of them listen the way you listen when you're not sure what you heard\, and out of that listening comes something close to shared foresight\, a feel for where the music is headed just before it arrives.

SUMMARY:Syzygy Trio ∴ Boyd\, Sanders & Hall
DESCRIPTION:Three musicians\, three separate orbits\, and a music that only materializes when the geometry briefly agrees. Will Boyd plays saxophone and EWI\, running both through an effects chain that can leave a tenor standing alone or disperse it into layered versions of itself. Jay Sanders holds the low end on bass before moving to guitar and the Erae Touch\, a pressure-sensitive surface that reads force and lateral drift the way skin reads temperature\, letting the synthesizer parts bend and breathe like something bowed. Alan Hall plays drums\, analog throughout\, the one body in the system with a fixed address. The trio takes its name from the astronomical condition in which three celestial objects fall into a single line\, an alignment that is temporary by nature and arrives without announcement.

SUMMARY:The Page Brothers Quartet
DESCRIPTION:Andy and Zack Page were born four minutes apart and have been finishing each other's musical sentences ever since\, Andy's guitar lines and Zack's bass tracking so closely the seam between them disappears. They grew up in a house where blues records\, old-time singing\, and hard rock all shared the same air\, and somehow they never chose between those worlds. Tonight they bring two players who made similar peace with the same problem. Steve Davidowski was the original keyboardist in the Dixie Dregs\, played on the demo that got them signed and the debut that followed\, then left at the band's rising moment to tour with Vassar Clements instead. He lives up the road in Marshall now\, carries a piccolo on walks through town\, and is quietly building something he calls Xenobilly.

SUMMARY:Syzygy Trio ∴ Boyd\, Sanders & Hall
DESCRIPTION:Four musicians walk into a room and decide to find out what's underneath everything. Jay Sanders on guitar\, Will Boyd on reeds\, Zack Page on bass\, Alan Hall on percussion — together they form something that resists easy naming\, a quartet that moves freely between stillness and turbulence\, between melody that feels like open countryside and sound that feels like a building coming apart at the seams. They've spent enough time in the practice of improvisation to know that the interesting stuff lives in the margins between genres\, where a composed theme can dissolve mid-phrase into something unplanned and strange. Little Jumbo is a good place for this kind of searching.

SUMMARY:Chew Toy
DESCRIPTION:Chew Toy is Danny Iannucci\, Joe Enright\, and Dylan Hannan\, and they arrive at Little Jumbo on August 31st with something that does not wait for permission. The bass moves like it is tracking a scent\, low and deliberate\, circling the room before it commits. The drums land with the confidence of something that already knows where it is going. The saxophone appears without announcement\, asks several unanswerable questions\, and then vanishes before anyone can respond. There are no chord progressions to soften the experience. There is rhythm\, breath\, tone\, and the blunt momentum of decisions already made. Chew Toy sets tend to begin somewhere recognizable and then drift\, methodically\, into stranger territory\, until the room stops analyzing and starts simply responding.

SUMMARY:Benevolent Order of the Creature\, Lodge No. 241
DESCRIPTION:The Lodge has no founding date. The Creature was already in the corner when the paper sun went up\, when the grass learned to grow from flat stock\, when the room decided it was a room. Four amber eyes in no symmetrical arrangement\, patient beyond the age of the walls. It does not play. It presides. Jay Sanders\, Will Boyd\, Alan Hall\, Zack Page\, Andy Pond\, and Jason Krekel are the part of the night that moves. Membership is not applied for. You are admitted the moment a held note outlasts the breath behind it and you lose track of which one of you started dreaming the other. The Order keeps minutes from a meeting that never adjourned. Its single bylaw is sympathetic vibration: strike one thing truly and the rest of the room answers. The Creature has not blinked.
